Day 01: Hanoi - Thai Nguyen – Ba Be lake

Having hearty breakfast in hotel, leaving the hustling and bustling city behind, our shuttle bus take transfer two hour on newly highway in Thai Nguyen. Upon arriving in cycling point, we commence cycling on tarmac road to untouched region of ATK ( safety zones) – Name for Vietminh revolutionary base.  We will cycle through peacefull village and stunning scenery.  On the way, you will have chance to visit village making paper. Have lunch in Bac Can, after lunch time , we start cycling from  Bang Lung Town to Ba be, enjoy breathtaking scenery and  and lush village life. Upon arrival in Ba Be, check in home-stay and free for leisure. Overnight in  Ba Be (at the front of river View).

Day 02: Ba Be Lake – Boat Trip and Cycle Bac Me

Get up early to experience the daily life of Tay people who have been the owner of Ba Be Lake and living for hundred years in this area. You may be wander around the lake to contemplate  outstanding scenic beauty .Have breakfast with our host, then we say good bye them,  jump on boat with our bike to explore tranquil lake  and peaceful village in the morning.  Ba Be Lake is one of 28 Biggest fresh water lake on slope of limestone mountain in the world. With 8 km width and  600 m length. Ba Be is definitely ideal destination for tourist to experience  and discover the oustanding scenery and emerald water lake. We will spend over one hour on boat trip to expose the stunning landscapes and learning about the diverse flora and fauna  in  Ba Be National Park.  Load up our bike and cycle on concrete road lead to Na Hang reservoir then take the second boat trip to Da Vi section. We continue cycle through untouched region of Na Hang National park, challenge some steep passes  with sharp turns and winding  slope lead to Bac Me.

Day 03: Bac Me – Minh Ngoc – Du Gia

Today is the first day of Ha Giang Bicycle loop, promising bring us wonderful experience in our trip. Start our new exploring day from hotel after recharging energy, we cycle through town and gear up our pedals on winding road and snaking amongst oucrops mountain ranges to Minh Ngoc junction.

Morning cycle on undulating road, winding its way along river and slope of mountains take us to Du Gia National Forest You will actually have a glimpse of scenic beauty in the North Vietnam. After refreshing, we get back on bike to cycle and ascent gradually long long gradients through canopy forest and rustic village in to Dong Van Geopark.. while cycling through the mountainsides, misty valleys, You will be overwhelmed by the magnificent beauty of the mountains, primeval forests and ethnic villages. Have lunch en route.  After recharging energy, we actually meet and challenge incredible pass, winding its way along hillside and along dense tropical forest to the peak.  Spending our time to take panoramic view over Du Da Valley before descending into misty village for stayovernight,

Day 04: Du Gia – Mau Due – Lung Phinh – Meo Vac.

Today is really a challenging day in the journey to conquer the Dong Van Geological Plateau. Make sure you're fully energized for a long day of challenging.

Setting off new cycling day from the hotel, we quickly conquer the first short slope out of the Du Gia valley, after reaching the top. we relax our feet when descending 2 km. Hold on the second pass longer and more difficult than the first one. However, the majestic natural landscape of high and sharp mountains interspersed with misty valleys in the early morning creates a magnificent and contemplative natural scene. Our cycling route weaves through narrow ravines, lurking behind white mists, hovering over cat ears mountains to help us get excited and forget about the challenges ahead. 

The morning bike ride brings us to the center of Mau Due where lunch has been well prepared.  After refueling, we get back on bikes to conquer the long steep pass crossing the cat ears mountains and small narrow valleys and wind its way along tiny road  that lead us to the town of Meo Vac.

Day 05: Meo Vac – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Dong Van – Lung Cu  - Dong Van

Having hearty breakfast in Hotel, we kick off our pedal to challenge one of incredible pass of North East Vietnam – Ma Phi Lang Pass with 20 Km long. 

Ma Phi Leng Pass is located at 1230 m and looks over to Nho Que River , offer amazing scenery and panoramic view.

Whilst we cycle along scenic route from Hotel to summit, we will admire extraordinary landscape and rugged mountain range, emerald water on Nho Que River.

Descendingly ride 2 km to Dong Van town, regroup and refreshment. We continue our trip to Ma Le and Xa Phin Valley on winding route along rugged mountainside to Lung Cu Flag Pole.

Have lunch in local restaurant or picnic lunch. After recharging energy, take electric car to visit and explore the  flag pole, take overview picturesque scenery and sublime mountain ranges. After visiting  Lung Cu Landmark. We kick off our bike on gravel road, challenge some steep passes  with winding route and sharp bends to Ma Le Valley then Dong Van Town.

we get back on bikes on winding road back to Dong Van or taking transfer to Hotel for relax.

Day 06: Dong Van  - Hmong King  Palace - Yen Minh

Having breakfast in Hotel, setting off  new cycling day tour on scenic road and challenge the first and tough hilltop out of town to Hmong King palace.

Spending our time to pay visit the former Palace of the Hmong King who ruled over the Hmong community and control opium trading until 1945.

Hold on our cycling trip on hilly and narrow road, weaving amongst rocky mountain and picturesque  valley with 21km to Sung La and then up steep mountain to Pho Bang ancient trading town, enjoy several stops along the way for sightseeing and paying visiting Sung Muoi village of the Hmong. Lunch break in Pho Bang.Continue cycling downhill from Pho Bang to Yen Minh via Pho Cao Mountain pass which offers stunning scenery of yen Minh valley. Arriving at the Phuong Dong  hotel in mid-afternoon. Check in and relax.

Day 07: Yen Minh – Quan Ba – Ha Giang 

Have breakfast in Hotel, we will be back on bikes and get ready for great challenging today. We shall conquer two high mountain pass: Yen Minh and Quan Ba.

Setting off on new cycling day with two km on gently undulating road then challenging 19km uphill to the top of Yen Minh pass. The road is steep with many sharp bends but offers great view of marvellous valley below. Enjoy a tea break at the top before getting downhill 18km to Can Ty commune and then cycle through the valley along the Nho Que River for 6km. Take another break for recharging energy before biking uphill 13km to Quan Ba town let. Paying visit to Nam Dam village of the Zao people before lunch break. Afternoon challenge is conquering Quan Ba Pass, The 8km uphill to the Haven Gate at the top is really steep with many sharp bends. Then getting down steep mountain 20km to the bottom of the valley. Picked up in mid afternoon for 25km transfer to Ha Giang. Check in hotel and free to explore this charming city.

Day 08:  Ha Giang – Hoang Su Phi 

Our new exploration day will start from Hotel after recharging energy, setting off cycling tour on village road and narrow trail winding amonst lush rice paddy fields and stunning primeval forest to Thanh Ha Hot spring water.

Turning off on single track trail and motor way to Cao Banh commune where we admire ancient Shan Tuyet Tea forest and breathtaking scenic beauty of rice terraces and rustic village lifes

Immersing yourself into magnificent scene of rice terraces, lush forest and poetical landscape of Hoang Su phi.  Have lunch enroute. After lunch, we keep riding on  heavenly gate before  riding down to  Thong Nguyen commune through friendly tribal villages  to heaven gate II and then sacent  to  Hoang su Phi Town. Have dinner and stay overnight in local guest house.

Day 09: Thong Nguyen - Hoang Su Phi – Coc Phai – Bac Ha 
 

Today is hard day with mixed road, single track and off road to  Bac Ha, we start from Hotel, after recharging fully energy, Setting off  cycling tours  through ructic village and riverside to challenge the first incredible pass which winds it way in misty valley and rustic villages, Shan Tuyet Tea forest, Rice Terrace field to Phi Ho section.

Turning right and keeping  ascenting to Ta Su Chong village where we actually get on peak with outstanding scenery. Upon arriving in peak, we refresh by cold drinks and snacks and tropical fruits.

We embark on bike to descent along hillside, weaving through rice terrace fields and rivershore. We actually immerse fairyland with breathtaiking scenery and outcrops rugged mountain to Coc Pai.

Coc Pai is naturally boundary between Ha giang and Lao Cai province . located at 1500 meters elevation. the cycling route from Coc pai - Lung Phinh is incredible and adventurous  challenging.

Arriving in summit for picnic lunch. Following lunch,  we turn off in single track path to Lung Cai  Commune and  down hill to Bac Ha Town. the remainder of the day is your own.  Have dinner and stay overnight in Bac Ha.

Day 10: Bac Ha –  Vinh Yen

Have hearty breakfast in Hotel, setting off our way on scenic route, pass through quaint villages and stunning rices paddy fields to Tan Duong Commune for 20 kilometre, ( 11 Miles). Upon arriving of Tan Duong, we will regroup and refreshment before challenging short steep hill with winding route Tan Phuong Commune. We enjoy breathtaking scenery and soaring limestone mountain ranges before descendingly rolling down to  VinhYen..

Have lunch enroute, then we cycle on flat and tarmac road lead to second pass, challenging 5 km on slope before descendingly ride to Bao Ha section. Have dinner and stay overnight in Bao Ha small Town.

Day 11: Vinh Yen - Bao Ha – Than Uyen 

Today is actually and challenging day in our trip with long distance ascendingly ride. However,we  will be rewarded by sublime scenic beauty and breathtaking scenery.

Setting off our way from hotel, we kick off our bike to ride  20 km ascendingly on scenic road, passing many hill tribes villages to Khanh Yen Commune.  Refueling energy with coffee and snacks.

We continue cycling up hill on winding road to challenge Khau Co pass with 30 km long. Bicycling descendingly through stunning scenery to Than Uyen town. Check in and dinner in local restaurant.

Day 12: Than Uyen – Mu Cang Chai   Khau Pha Pass – Tu Le Valley

We are waken up by the sound of Mother  Nature, immersing yourself in breathtaking scenery and magnificent landscapes of North west Vietnam.

Today is epic cycling adventure day with terrific cycle route which wind it way into sleepy valley, mountain and rice terrace paddy fields. We enjoy our exploration of Cycling in Far North Vietnam with short steep pass out of hotel until meeting the Junction where we turn left on new asphalt road along river and gearing up again to the valley out of Mu Cang Chai until the road begins to wind up into the hills. This rugged terrain of dense vegetation brings us into contact with the Black Hmong and the mysterious White Tay people who are famed for their folk music, poems and songs. 

We also  ride ascendingly from Mu Cang Chai  and challenge one of the forth incredible pass in the north Vietnam – Khau Pa pass. Stop on the summit to admire extraordinary scenery before descedingly rolling down to  Tu Le.

Day 13:  Tu le -   Nghia Lo

Today we pass large white limestone mountains as we explore the real  Northern Vietnam. We will cycle through meandering roads before we finally end the day in Nghia Lo. It sits on a mountain ridge overlooking the Red and Black River and is home to the Thai, Nung, H’mong, La Ha and Ma peoples.

Setting off on cycling tours after recharging energy from Resort, gearing up on single track traill lead to village road where we admire stunning scenery and rustic hill tribes villages in misty valley in early morning.

After cycling loop inTu Le valley, we cycle on back road lead us back to main road where we actually challenge 7 km on rough and tough pass out of Tu Le Valley.

upon arriving  hilltop, taking panoramic view of Valley. we start our cycling trip to descent along hillside and slope of mountains into Nghia Lo town.

Gearing up and challenge some steep passes on road before descending into lowland of Northern Vietnam. Have lunch in local restaurant, after recharging energy, we get back on bike to cycle on undulating road along River take us to Thanh Son town. Taking transfer the rest distsnce to Hanoi city.

Creating Unique Touring Experiences:

All the touring itineraries on this website have been carefully crafted by our in-country management teams and represent a series of experiences we can certainly recommend. However, we understand that every travel experience should be as unique and individual as each traveler. Our consultants are waiting to hear from you so that we can tailor or custom design a Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar tour to your individual specifications.

 

Each bike comes with a single water bottle cage, if you prefer more you are welcome to bring your own. Bikes also have gel seat cover slips if you prefer a softer ride. If you have your own saddle that you are comfortable with seat, you are welcome to bring it and we'll fit it. On long tours women specific seats are recommended and we have some available, but we cannot guarantee we will available for every tour.These bikes also are available for rent in case you want to go it alone or just need a bike for a day.

Bikes repairs: basic spaires and tools kid are generally carried by guide and on the support vehicle, although we can not guarantee having spares for every conceivable problem. Carring a basic tool kids, a spare tube and a pump while riding is  recommended.

Safety: wearing a helmet is compulsory on all our biking adventures. Your tour guide are trained in first aid and emergency rescure, tour guide often carry first aid  box with their bikes while riding

Support: we often used mini bus and bus  with air condition for transfer and back up as itineraries

Accommodation:When cycling we stay in friendly hotel, guesthouse or homestays. Some are more basic than others! Bear in mind that some of the places we overnight in are not on the standard tourist trail.In larger cities and towns, our hotels are generally more western style and are three or four hotels or resort. Please do not expect the same standard as you would your home.

Our guides: the tour will be led by one of English - speaking guides. All our guides have great knowledge of history, local culture,  and religions of the area where you are cycling and introduce that experiences for you . our guides have been  trained  in this field and is fully licensed in tour guiding by Vietnam National Tourism. Our guides are also medically skilled in first Aid by SOS  and they know how to deal  with hard situations.\

Grading definition: To assist you visualise how our trip is difficult, we have graded our adventure tours into three categories, easy, moderate, and challenging, we group many factors into consideration into this grading, including distant covered, terrain, altitude, weather conditions and vehicle support
 

Easy: suitable for most people in good health. These trips  generally include short days, on good paths and at low attitudes

Moderate: A reasonable level of fitness is required, as these trips can require sustained endurance levels, hill longer days and altitude.All of our moderate trips have a support vehicle following closely, weary travellers can hitch a ride and take a rest for a while.

Challenging: these trips are physically demanding and best suite for  fit people with high endurancce level. Day can be longer, often at altitude, in remoted regions and sometimes without supports vehicle nearby.. travellers may be required  to carry a backpacks.

Terrain: Distances on full cycling days average around 50 – 80km. Our route is mainly on tarmac roads of varing quality with are some more like hard – packed dirt, Terrain is generally flat or undulating with a few notable climbs..  Distance for second days and  half of third day is around 60- 80 km. Our routes are mainly on single track, dirt road and trail , we cycle around villages and villages, through rice paddy terraces.
 

Food: All the meals which, are mentioned in itinerary, are included in the price of this tour. Most of meals are Vietnamese local food in Homestays . while in towns, we will enjoy Vietnamese cuisine in delicious restaurants

Meals consist of a variety of banlanced dishes and aim for universal appeal, we avoid highly spiced foods.

Vegetarians are certainly welcome and are always accommodated, please let us know of any dietary concerns at time of booking.  Beverage  and alcoholic drink are not included  at mealtime or in restaurants

Snack/ Water: when we transfer, ride by minibus ( no cycling day),  our bottled waters are always available  for you ( two little for one day for person with wet tissue)
 

When we have cycling days, we will offer cold water and wet tissue in box plus fresh tropical fruides, soft – drink, energy – drinking, ( five little water for cycling day/ person). 

Beer is freely available everywhere in Vietnam, but not include in our trip.

The Homestays: Homestay in the villages is simple interm of  bedding condition and ementies. We will sleep  on beds  or floor with mattress, clean sheet, pillow and mosquito nets. Toilet is usually western style.

Weather: Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate. Broadly speaking, the weather in Vietnam is dictated by two seasons - the southwest monsoon from April to September and the Northeast monsoon  from October to late march  or early April.
 

Due to regional climate differences, there are no right or wrong  seasons to visit Vietnam.the north Vietnam is cool, damp in winters between November and December and February with tempreture in Hanoi falling to around 15oC. The summer months from April to October  are hot and dry.the best time visit Vietnam is spring ( February – April) or Autunm( late September – December) when it is not so humid. The weather turns quite cold and wet in January and this continues to  march. The humidity can prove oppresive from May to the early September.
 

Money:  the official national currency is the Vietnamese Dong ( VND), but the US dollar is widely accepted in allmost tourist centers. However, small towns and the villages the VND is preferred, ATM are available in all major cities and towns, tourist destinations, Vietcombank, Agriculture banks are the best networks with  a limit a single withdraw limit of 2000,000 d ( 95 USD). Most major currrencies can be exchanged in leading in Vietnam, but th USD is preferred  away from the tourist centers. Changing 100 USD  wil make you to be a millionaire. You can not legally take the dong out of Vietnam but you can reconvert reasonable amounts of it into USD on departure,.

Clothing:  comfortable lightweight clothing  in natural fabrics such as cotton is most suitable for travelling in Vietnam. The dress code is fairly casual as it is in most parts of the tropics but it is advisable to cover arms and legs in the evening against bitting  insects. A light weight raincoat or rain cape  is a good ideal in the raining season. For on the bike you will need to bring a couple of pairs of cycling shorts and short leeve jerseys, a pairs of cycling glove and if you use them, your clip in cycling shoes/ sandals.. when travel in the North Vietnam during winter months ( late November – March) warm clothe is needed.Visitors to Buddhist countries should not to wear shorts, short skirts  or other skimpy clothing when visiting religious centers and shoes should be removed  before entering private homes.
 

Passport and visa: All visitors  are required to have a valid  visa to enter Vietnam. A one month tourist visa is usually sufficients for most visitors, though it is possible to arrange  three months  or six month – multiple entry visa for regular visitors. The Snail Adventure Tours company  is authorised to issue visa on arrival at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi, Danang International Airport in Danang,  and Tan San Nhat in Ho chi Minh city.The same authorisation proceduce  and a minimum mof 5 days working  notice is required. In emergency case they can arrange a visa o arrival if notice of 2  working days is given
 

Tipping: Tipping for good services is always appreciated in these developing countries. It is customary, though not compulsory, to tip tour guides and drivers at the end of the tour. Hotels and station porters should also be tipped a small amount for . We recommend 5 US Dollar  / person/per day  for cycling tour guides .. 2 USD/ person/ day for driver and 1 USD/ person/ day for door bell when checking in and out.

We stayed at locally owned accommodation and visit  cottage industries  for local handicraft souvenir, generating  income for local business.
